Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village
Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, located just an hour outside Pittsburgh in Avella, Pa., explores 19,000 years of history. Named one of the “Five Great Places to See Evidence of the First Americans” by Smithsonian Magazine, the Meadowcroft Rockshelter is a National Historic Landmark and the oldest site of human habitation in North America. Visitors can also explore a series of recreated outdoor interpretive areas including a 16th-century Eastern Woodland Indian Village, an 18th-century frontier trading post, and a 19th-century rural village.
Meadowcroft will re-open to the public on Saturday, May 1.
May: Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Memorial Day to Labor Day: Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
September and October: Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Group tours are available April through November.

Fort Pitt Museum
The Fort Pitt Museum tells the story of the Point’s critical role during the French & Indian War, the American Revolution, and the birth of Pittsburgh. Located in Point State Park in downtown Pittsburgh, the 12,000-square-foot museum provides visitors with a rich understanding of the world-changing events that occurred in Western Pennsylvania. The Fort Pitt Museum presents living history demonstrations throughout the summer months, in addition to lectures and educational programming throughout the year. The museum is one of the most affordable family-friendly cultural experiences in the region.
