Pennsylvania Trolley Museum

The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum came to Chartiers Township, Washington County in February 1954. Today, the Museum boasts a collection of nearly 50 antique streetcars and hosts numerous events, programs, groups, and field trips throughout the year. Travel back in time to a bygone era on the 4-mile scenic round trip ride aboard one of the museum’s restored streetcars. Enjoy the clang of the bell and the clatter of the heavy steel wheels over the rails as you feel the power of the electric motors move the car along the track, an experience first enjoyed by Americans in the 1880s. Along the way, you’ll stop at the Trolley Display Building for a guided exploration of the development of streetcars through the Trolley Era (1890-1950).  See cars from Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Orleans, and even Rio de Janiero! Finish your tour where you started: at the Visitor Education Center. In air-conditioned comfort you’ll find exhibits including the trolley simulator, interactive items for children, orientation film, and more. Be sure to stop by the Museum Store, where a variety of rail-related gifts and souvenirs of your visit can be purchased. Make a day of it and enjoy a picnic in one of our picnic areas along the trolley tracks.
